How many teaspoons of instant coffee per cup?
Use about 1.5 level teaspoons (3 g) of instant coffee for an 8 fl oz mug at medium strength. Use 1 teaspoon for a mild cup and 2 teaspoons for a strong one. Teaspoon weight varies by brand, so a scale is more repeatable.
How much instant coffee equals one cup of brewed coffee?
Instant coffee is almost entirely soluble solids, so an 8 fl oz cup at a typical 1.35% brew strength needs only about 3 g. A drip brew of the same strength uses about 14 g of ground coffee at a 1:17 ratio, so one gram of instant stands in for roughly four to five grams of ground.
What water temperature is best for instant coffee?
Use water just off the boil, around 90 to 96 C (195 to 205 F). Instant dissolves fully in hot water, and very hot water can taste harsher, so let a freshly boiled kettle rest for a minute.
How much caffeine is in a cup of instant coffee?
Instant coffee generally has less caffeine than a brewed cup, often cited around 60 to 80 mg per 8 fl oz. The amount depends on the brand and dose, so check the label, then compare it using our caffeine calculator.
