How much coffee for a V60 or Chemex? Choose your water amount and dripper to get grams of coffee, bloom water, temperature and brew time.
How much coffee do I use for a V60?
A common V60 recipe is 15 g of coffee to 250 ml of water (about 1:16). For a bigger mug, 22 g with 350 ml works the same way. Adjust the ratio between 1:15 (stronger) and 1:17 (lighter) to taste.
How much coffee do I use in a Chemex?
Chemex recipes run slightly stronger, around 1:15 — for example 33 g of coffee for 500 ml of water. Use a slightly coarser grind than for a V60 because the thick filter slows the draw-down.
How much water should I use to bloom?
Bloom with about twice the weight of the coffee in water (30 g of water for 15 g of coffee), wait 30–45 seconds to let carbon dioxide escape, then continue pouring.
What water temperature is best for pour-over?
Around 92–96 °C (198–205 °F). Light roasts like the hot end; darker roasts taste sweeter and less bitter cooler. See the
water temperature guide.
What grind size should I use for pour-over?
Medium-fine for V60 and Kalita, medium to medium-coarse for Chemex. If the brew runs much longer than the time shown, go coarser; if much shorter, go finer. See the
grind size guide.
How long should a pour-over take?
Typically 2:30 to 4:00 in total including the bloom, depending on dripper and dose. Larger batches take longer; adjust the grind rather than the pouring speed to hit the target.
