Frequently Asked Questions

How much coffee do I use in an AeroPress?
A standard AeroPress recipe uses about 15 g of coffee for 200 ml of water (roughly 1:14). For a stronger concentrate to dilute afterwards, use around 1:8 — for example 17 g with 135 ml of water.
What grind size is best for an AeroPress?
Medium-fine, finer than drip and coarser than espresso, for a 1–2 minute brew. Go finer for shorter brews and coarser for longer steeps. See the grind size guide.
What water temperature should I use for an AeroPress?
Around 80–90 °C (176–194 °F). Lighter roasts do well at the hot end; darker roasts taste sweeter and less bitter cooler. See the water temperature guide.
How long should an AeroPress brew?
Typically 1:30 to 2:00 total including a gentle 30-second press. Shorter brews taste brighter and lighter; longer steeps give more body.
Should I use the inverted AeroPress method?
Either works. Inverted keeps all the water in contact with the coffee until you flip and press, which gives more control over steep time. Upright is simpler and less messy.
How do I make iced AeroPress coffee?
Use less water (about 1:10), brew hot, and press directly onto ice — roughly 40% of the finished volume. Flash-chilling locks in aroma. See the iced coffee calculator.
