About Blue Bottle Coffee

Founded in 2002 by former clarinetist James Freeman, who began roasting coffee in a 186-square-foot potting shed in Oakland and delivering by bicycle. Inspired by Vienna's first cafe, The Blue Bottle, Freeman built a specialty empire focused on freshness and craft.

Sourcing & Philosophy

Direct trade relationships with farms and cooperatives worldwide. Known for sourcing from micro-lots and small producers with an emphasis on freshness, shipping beans within 48 hours of roasting.
